On July 26, 2004, the chemical industry witnessed the founding of an organization that would become a key player in combating the spread of deadly viruses like the coronavirus.

This was the birth of Nanox Tecnologia, now recognized as a global leader in safe microbiological control for surfaces and materials across various industries.

FROM SPIN-OFF TO S/A

Microorganisms are everywhere, posing risks to both health and industrial processes.

This reality inspired the creation of Nanox as a spin-off of the Center for the Development of Functional Materials (CDMF) at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), one of the world’s most renowned research institutions.

Scientific leadership came from Elson Longo, one of Brazil's leading scientists, a PhD in Physical Chemistry, and now a member of Nanox’s scientific advisory board.

Under his guidance, founders Gustavo Simões (CEO) and Daniel Minozzi (COO) expanded the company, building strategic partnerships and positioning Nanox as a global market leader.

Today, Nanox is a privately held corporation with a robust corporate governance structure and a board comprised of founders, investors, and partner institutions.

WHEN THERE’S NO WIND, ROW

Nanox has always captured media attention. One highlight was the 2009 article “Trio High-Tech,” published by the magazine Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negócios.

The piece showcased the founders' journey and philosophy, illustrated by the phrase displayed on the office door in São Carlos: “When there’s no wind, row.”

This embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of André Araújo, Gustavo Simões, and Daniel Minozzi, who, in their early 30s, decided to transform scientific knowledge into market innovation.

Manipulating materials billions of times smaller than a meter, they founded Brazil’s first nanotechnology company.

Their invisible-to-the-eye antimicrobial solution can be applied to various materials, including metals, glass, ceramics, wood, fibers, and plastics, cementing Nanox as a pioneer in the field.

STRUCTURE AND GLOBAL PRESENCE

Nanox operates two manufacturing units in Brazil, producing over 50 biocidal and microbiological control products. The company specializes in chemical synthesis and maintains microbiology labs to develop and refine applications in collaboration with clients.

In the United States, Nanox has a unit dedicated to market intelligence and intellectual property management, strengthening its global footprint.

What has Nanox created?

PARTNERSHIP

In collaboration with the Biomedical Sciences Institute at USP, Nanox became the first Brazilian technology company to conduct tests on fabrics against SARS-CoV-2, proving anti-COVID efficacy.

SOLUTION

In the architecture and construction sector, Nanox developed the first antiviral MDF tested and proven effective against COVID-19.

SAFETY

The first antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal paper in Brazil resulted from a partnership between Nanox and Irani, a leading paper and corrugated cardboard packaging company.

Provides antimicrobial protection for household and industrial utensils made of polymers or metals, including food-contact materials.

In 2019, Nanox participated in a business acceleration program in Silicon Valley at Plug and Play, the world’s largest corporate innovation platform and investor (backing companies like Google, Dropbox, and PayPal).

PIONEERING

Nanox was the first Brazilian company to prove the efficacy of its actives against the COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2

INNOVATION

In April 2020, Nanox and toy manufacturer Elka launched the reusable “OTO” face mask, the first Nanox-backed product recognized as an ally in the fight against COVID-19.

EFFICIENCY

In August 2020, the OTO Mask was tested for effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2 at the NB3 laboratory of USP/SP’s Biomedical Institute, achieving over 99% inactivation of the coronavirus within just 2 minutes of contact.
